The 8th death anniversary of former two-time elected prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party ex-chairperson Benazir Bhutto was observed in the city with the demand to book her assassins, while showing the resolve to continue her mission in the country.
Hundreds of workers and leaders of PPP took out a rally from Wahdat Road to Chairing Cross (Faisal Chowk). A large number of people carrying party flags, banners and placards.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP leaders demanded the government to arrest the criminal involved in the murder of their beloved leader. Former member provincial assembly Sajida Mir led the rally. She said it was strange that the murders have not been arrested yet. She demanded the government to book the culprits.
A special prayers ceremony was held at the residence of PPP leader Samina Khalid Gurki. Barrister Aamer Hassan and other leaders and workers participated in the special prayers. On this occasion, PPP workers expressed their complete confidence in the leadership of Asif Zadari and Bilawal Bhutto to continue the mission of their slain leader. Samina Gurki and other leader expressed their heartfelt grief and condolence and said the vacuum created due to their leader’s murder could never be filled. The party workers observed two-minute silence to pay homage to their leader and later offered Fateha and special prayers for BB.
Civil Society Network President Abdullah Malik organised a candlelit vigil on The Mall in commemoration of Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary and paid rich tributes to the legend as she sacrificed her life for the peoples of Pakistan. Malik said Benazir Bhutto kept alive the sacrifice and tradition of her father ZA Bhutto, and gave her blood for establishment and revival of democracy in Pakistan. He said the civil society network would spread her message of tolerance and peace throughout the country. In Ichhra, a seminar was organised by PPP workers, which was addressed by Senator Jehangir Badr and other leaders. Badr paid rich tributes to the leaders for rendering great and unmatched sacrifice.
Party workers also aired the last address of late Benazir in various parts of the city through loudspeaker fixed on mobile vans. Elderly die-heart workers of PPP were seen weeping and crying on this occasion. Some of them blamed present leadership for not booking the culprit behind the murder of their leader.
PPP leaders and workers arranged blood camps to show their resolve to continue the mission of their late leader Benazir Butto and founder Zuliqar Ali Bhutto.
Benazir Bhutto was the 11th prime minister of Pakistan. She served Pakistan as prime minister during two separate terms in 1988–90 and 1993–96. Born on June 21, 1953 in Karachi, she was assassinated on December 27, 2007, after a public procession in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.
