Mehmood Khan Achakzai, leader of the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party, who visited Afghanistan last month, has revealed that his trip was prompted following fears of Afghan forces attack on Pakistan.
Achakzai visited Kabul last month along with Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and other Afghan government officials.
In an interview with the BBC Pashto, Achakzai said he was sent to Afghanistan as special envoy by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif following confirmed reports that Kabul was planning military action against Pakistan.
Achakzai further added that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged him to visit Afghanistan as he did not that there should be any misunderstanding between the two neighbouring countries.
He said the US and Chinese ambassadors to Afghanistan had also attended the meeting between him and President Hamid Karzai.
According to Achakzai, Karzai was planning a military action following the killing of three Afghan army soldiers in a direct fire by Pakistani forces earlier in June.
He called both on Kabul and Islamabad to commit in front of the entire world that they will not breach and respect each other’s sovereignty.
