'Daughter of Pakistan' title conferred on Malala

The National Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution to confer Daughter of Pakistan title on Malala Yousufzai. The resolution was moved by Robina Saadat Qaimkhani of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in the Lower House of the Parliament. The House passed the resolution unanimously. While tabling the resolution in the House, Qaimkhani said that Malala should be given the title of "Daughter of Pakistan" for her role in promoting education in the militancy-stricken area. She said that owing to Malala's struggle for promotion of peace and girls' right to education; she deserved applause and special recognition from the Parliament. She also lauded the role of President Asif Ali Zardari for promoting child education in the country. According to the resolution, Malala had become a role model for child education across the world. "This House gives great importance and significance to the sacrifice rendered by Malala Yousufzai for the sake of education. The House, therefore, recommends that Malala Yousufzai may be declared as Daughter of Pakistan," Naseer Bhutta of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also appreciated the role of Malala Yousufzai for education. He said that she was not a political figure, but daughter of Pakistan.
