Imran Khan Compares Pakistan Army With 'animals' For Not Backing Him Before Trust Vote

 By Bhavyata Kagrana

Amid chaos in the Pakistan Government where a no-confidence motion has been submitted against PM Imran Khan, Pakistan's Army has chosen to remain neutral

Slamming the Pakistan Army's 'neutrality' and refusal to back him and his PTI in the face of the no-confidence motion the Opposition has proposed against him, the country's Prime Minister Imran Khan said "Allah didn't allow us to be neutral as only animals are neutral".
Addressing a public gathering at the Dir Scouts ground in the Balambat area of Lower Dir district on Friday, March 10, Imran Khan also added that Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa asked him not to call Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman ‘diesel’ but went on to do it anyway.
Days after a no-confidence motion was submitted against Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, he had showered confidence in the Army being on his side. However, the Pakistani Army pulled the carpet out from under his feet and said that it doesn’t want to be dragged into politics.
In his speech, the PM also slammed the three party leaders - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party co-chair Zardari, and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Rehman, who have joined forces to file a no-trust motion against him, citing the government’s inability to control inflation, which has harmed ordinary people.
No-confidence motion against Imran Khan
On Tuesday, the Pakistan Opposition submitted a no-trust motion against Imran Khan with the country's National Assembly secretariat. Reportedly, the document was signed by more than 100 lawmakers even as only 68 members, i.e 20% of the total House strength of 342 were required to sign the motion. As per the rules of procedure, an emergency Assembly session will have to be convened by March 22 and the vote will have to be held between March 26-30.
As Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has only 155 members in the 342-member National Assembly, the government's survival depends on the support of allies such as MQM-P (7 seats), BAP (5 seats), PML(Q) (5 seats), GDA (3 seats), AML (1 seat), JWP (1 seat) and 2 Independents.
On the other hand, the opposition has a total of 162 seats - 10 short of 172 required to topple Imran Khan's government. While the opposition is short of numbers at present, it has reached out to both PML(Q) as well as MQM-P.

Paki Prime Minister Imran Khan, Facing No-Confidence Vote, Turns To Insults, Threats: Report

Imran Khan, in his address also threatened that a sea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers would storm Islamabad a day before voting on the no-confidence resolution tabled by the opposition in the National Assembly against him.
Ahead of the no-confidence motion against his government, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday used derogatory language for Opposition leaders and threatened them with consequences once the motion fails, local media reported.Imran Khan launched a scathing attack on the troika of opposition figures, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif, the three leaders who are spearheading the no-trust move against him while addressing a public meeting at Dir Scouts Ground in Balambat, Pakistan's Dawn reported.

Imran Khan referred to the trio of Opposition leaders as "Showbaz Sharif, Diesel and Dakoo".
Imran Khan, however, kept his choicest slur for the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) [JUI-F] chief, brushing aside advice that he himself said had been received from the head of the country's armed forces, the report further said.
"I was just talking to Gen Bajwa (Pakistan Army Chief) and he told me not to refer to Fazl as 'diesel'. But I am not the one who is saying that. The people have named him diesel," Imran Khan reportedly said referring to JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.Maulana Fazlur Rehman lashed out at Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and told him to "keep his fight political," after the Pakistani PM's verbal assault. He was speaking at the press conference organized by JUI-F chief along with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad, Pakistani broadcaster Geo News reported.
Imran Khan, in his address also threatened that a sea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers would storm Islamabad a day before voting on the no-confidence resolution tabled by the opposition in the National Assembly against him.
The Prime Minister reiterated that opposition leaders would face his wrath after the no-trust motion failed. "It was my dream that the opposition submits a no-confidence resolution against me in the NA (National Assembly)," he said, adding that the move would fail and the opposition would meet a shameful defeat, the report further said.
IMran Khan went on to talk about his government's achievements including the announcement of the recent 'relief measures' which reduced the prices of fuel and electricity tariffs by ₹ 10 and ₹ 5 respectively.
The comments come a day after Islamabad Police entered Parliament Lodges and made 19 arrests including key opposition members of the National Assembly.

#Pakistan - No one can stop the parliamentarians from voting-Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressing a press conference at Zardari House Islamabad, said that the challenge of the no-confidence that Imran Khan is facing is given by the Pakistani people. PPP’s 10-day long Awami march proved that the people no longer trust Imran Khan.Chairman Bilawal said that it is a result of the PPP workers’ three-year long struggle that all the democratic forces of the country are using democratic means to challenge this undemocratic person. This is our right and a parliamentary tool. Just like it is the common man’s right to go to the voting booth and cast their vote, it is a parliamentarian’s right to vote in the no-confidence. Imran Khan is using abusive language since he is panicking and can clearly see his defeat. A respectable man should have himself realized that he does not have the numbers. Imran is an undemocratic man and does not believe in democracy, law or justice. He believes in a fixed match and only knows how to rig the elections. The prime minister is not trying to win the no-confidence but wants to rig. We will not let this defeated man rig anything. The people of the country will not let him rig anything.
Chairman PPP said that Article 6 of our constitution is very clear and applies to every person who wishes to meddle with a constitutional process. When everyone can see that this man is trying to commit rigging, his representatives are announcing to not count votes and the police is forcefully barging into the parliament lodges to arrest honorable members, what message is being sent out?
Chairman Bilawal appealed to the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Chief Election Commissioner to protect the voting rights of every parliamentarian. He said that no one should be stopped from casting their vote, whether they belong to the opposition or the treasury benches. There is an ongoing conspiracy to deprive the members of the parliament of their right. We will not tolerate this. We appeal to every single democratic individual who has sworn an oath to protect the constitution of Pakistan to ensure that the constitutional process is followed. This is the sole solution that can help the country emerge from this crisis. We cannot run this country on the rule of the jungle. There has to be a law of the land. We are peaceful and democratic people who did not throw a single pebble during a 10-day long protest all over the country. It is the right of the parliamentarians to cast their vote, and they will do so.
Chairman PPP said that the Pakistani nation knows that it is symbolic of the losing team to use abusive language and engage in ball-tampering. We will not let this defeated man rob the mandate of the people. This no-confidence is not only against Imran Khan but also against the economic crisis that has engulfed every Pakistani who is now facing inflation and unemployment. This no-confidence is against the foreign policy that has isolated Pakistan in the world and created distances with our friends as well as worsened the situation with our enemies. This no-confidence is against the polarized anarchy we are headed towards as a society, caused by Imran Khan. We want to head towards free and fair elections after the no-confidence. We want to create an environment in which the representatives of the people sit together and transparent elections are held so that a government that has the mandate of the people is formed.
We cannot tolerate for Pakistan’s economic and foreign policies to be harmed because of a single man, or for the institutions to be made controversial. Imran Khan did not only intend to rig the no-confidence, but also the upcoming elections. This man’s foreign funding case is still pending in the Election Commission of Pakistan. We request the ECP to announce its decision regarding this case at its earliest. The nation should know which foreigners belonging to India and Israel funded this man.Responding to questions, Chairman Bilawal said that the reason he is proud of this no-confidence as this is the first democratic one in the country’s history and is backed by the people of Pakistan. He said that the statements of the prime minister are a result of sheer panic and desperation, and should not be given attention. No prime minister in the history of Pakistan has ever been so desperate, who feels compelled to abuse everyone.
We would like to ask the PM who he termed as ‘animals’ in his speech. The prime minister’s desperate efforts will not be successful. The coming time is very difficult and the result of Imran Khan’s tsunami will be before us. This calls for an environment where people work together to help this country emerge from the crises caused by Imran Khan. We will be successful in creating such an atmosphere.
He said that no delay was taken in his efforts to approach those who could aid in the removal of this undemocratic man. If we want electoral reforms, we would have to work with everyone. This is how politics is done, listening to others, putting forth our perspective and then reaching a compromise. This country is not of a single person. Talking to representatives of political parties for the betterment of the people is something we will continue to do.Would Imran Khan be so baffled had our numbers not been complete, Chairman PPP asked. I challenge Imran Khan to hold a session and let his members vote. Our no-confidence will be successful. Our meetings with the former allies of the government have exceeded expectations.
Chairman Bilawal said that we believe in democracy and are confident as well as happy to see that our opponent is so worried. We are preparing for a win. Imran would not have been in such trouble had he learnt from the Charter of Democracy.
We have come to know that schools are being closed wherever Imran Khan is holding speeches and the students are being made to attend. Audio of applause is being played via soundtracks.
Chairman PPP said that it is his advice to Imran Khan that he should resign. Imran’s threats will go against him.
Chairman Bilawal said that we have had issues with the MQM but both political parties are of the view that we have a better chance of improving people’s lives if we work together. We do not need to agree on every issue but there is scope for common ground to be reached.

#Pakistan: Budget deficit hits record PKR 4.3 tr

The Pakistani budget deficit is Pakistani Rupees (PKR) 4.3 trillion, the highest ever.
The PKR 4.3 trillion budget deficit will be equal to 8 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on the basis of the old base year of the economy. It will stay high though the Pakistani government has squeezed the federal development budget by at least PKR 200 billion.
But the revised GDP base year has not yet been approved by the governing council of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune reported on Thursday. The gap of PKR 4.3 trillion is being bridged by taking more domestic and international loans.
This year, the Pakistani government has imposed a PKR 360 billion mini-budget and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) made windfall gains in tax collection on higher imports and higher inflation, despite all these efforts, the fiscal deficit went PKR 318 billion higher than the target set by the Pakistani government in June last year.
“The increase in current expenditures is expected due to rising interest payments, Covid-19 related spending, energy subsidies, social safety net expenditures and running of civil government,” the Ministry of Finance report was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.
Pakistan’s Finance Ministry is planning to adjust the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) whose spending remained only slightly above half of the money that the government had authorised for spending in the first half of the current fiscal year.Total expenditures of the federal government are still shown less than PKR 8.5 trillion, although huge slippages are expected due to the PM’s relief package-related spending.During the first half, the non-tax revenue collection came in at only PKR 715 billion, even lower than the previous fiscal year.
The cabinet was informed that the non-tax revenue collection was equal to only 69 per cent of the half-year estimate due to less collection of a petroleum development levy, gas infrastructure development cess (GIDC) and dividends from government-owned companies, The Express Tribune reported.

#Pakistan - Pakistan PM Khan faces ouster amid fears of failing economy

ADNAN AAMIR
Opposition closes in on the government, threatening IMF deal.

Opposition parties in Pakistan's parliament are set to topple the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan, as critics charge his policies are stoking inflation and amount to "selling out Pakistan's sovereignty" to the International Monetary Fund in exchange for loans.
Observers say the development could spark investor outflows and even damage China's Belt and Road Initiative in the country.
The opposition is in the final stages of drafting a "no-confidence" motion against Khan's government, which will be tabled in the National Assembly this week, Nikkei Asia learned from people familiar with the matter.
There are 162 opposition politicians behind the move, which needs 10 more votes for the motion to pass in the assembly of 342 lawmakers. The opposition claims it has secured the support of 24 members of government and can easily topple Khan's administration.Main opposition parties include the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and JUI-F. Contenders to take over as premier include Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of the PPP and Shehbaz Sharif of the PMLN.On Monday, Bhutto blamed the Khan government for causing inflation and poor stewardship of the economy, as well as its dealings with the IMF.However, Khan remained defiant. "I will fight them until [my last breath]. I will face them and I am completely prepared for whatever [they throw my way]," the prime minister said at a political rally on Sunday.
Analysts fear that toppling the government could further destabilize the economy, which is just emerging from COVID-19 doldrums.
Pakistan's exports between July 2021 and February 2022 have increased 26% to $20.55 billion from the same period the previous year. Fitch Ratings is expecting Pakistan's economy to grow 4.5% this year. The government is hoping to achieve an average growth rate of 5.9% by 2025, based on "China-centric three-year economic growth strategies" that Shaukat Tarin, the country's finance minister, recently mentioned without elaborating.
"The political machinations in Islamabad are and will continue to create near-term uncertainty," said Uzair Younus, director of the Pakistan Initiative at the Atlantic Council, an influential American think tank.
He added that the uncertainty would likely continue for the next 8 to 12 months, given that the next general elections are due before mid-October next year, making it challenging to push through reforms that are politically unpopular.
Government officials said that toppling Khan could lead to an outflow of investments. The country's foreign exchange reserves had risen to $22.88 billion (based on figures from State Bank of Pakistan) from $16.38 billion in fiscal 2018 when Khan assumed power.
"The political instability caused by opposition's efforts to get rid of Khan's government can result in a sharp decline in forex reserves of Pakistan due to capital flight," said a government official not authorized to talk to media.
Analysts said that uncertainty about a new government could make investors nervous about pumping in more money.
"If [investors] have good relations with the current government then they will also be apprehensive about the change and can pull money out," said Ahmed Naeem Salik, a research fellow at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad. He added that if investors pull out, it would be "devastating" for the economy.
Moreover, Pakistan's IMF deal could also become a casualty if the opposition were to succeed. In February, Pakistan received a $1.05 billion tranche from the IMF after a sixth progress review.
Last week, Khan announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices by 10 Pakistani rupees (5.6 cents) per liter and electricity tariffs by 5 Pakistani rupees per unit until June. These cuts are under the seventh IMF review. Salik believes that any new government will try to renegotiate fuel prices and electricity prices with IMF. "If these concessions are pulled back, under IMF pressure, then it will have a negative impact on the economy of the country. If concessions are retained, then IMF deal might not survive," he said.
The Atlantic Council's Younus is of the view that given the recent populist decisions made by the Khan government, a new government led by the opposition will have its work cut out, both in terms of reversing recent price cuts and engaging with the IMF. "If oil prices continue to rise, expect Pakistan to initiate negotiations for another IMF program," he added.
Investments worth $50 billion earmarked under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), part of Beijing's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative, could also be hit.
Krzysztof Iwanek, head of the Asia Research Center at Warsaw's War Studies University, suggested that Khan was central to the development of the CPEC after initial skepticism about his role in it when he first came to power.
"Later, some irritants in relations with Beijing were removed, certain projects within CPEC were modified and priorities were changed to give benefits to other groups, and gradually China-Pakistan relations started to look very cordial again," he explained.
He said that if there was a regime change in Pakistan, priorities within CPEC projects may be reshuffled again to benefit groups connected to the new government.

#Pakistan - Women rally in Pakistan despite attempts to shut down protest

8 Mar 2022
Thousands of women attend events marking International Women’s Day, known as the Aurat March in Pakistan.
About 2,000 women have rallied in the Pakistani city of Lahore despite efforts by authorities to bar the protest and withdraw security for an event frequently the target of violence.Rallies on International Women’s Day have received fierce backlash since they were embraced four years ago in deeply conservative and patriarchal Pakistan.
In a society where women have been shot, stabbed, stoned, set alight and strangled for damaging family “honour”, critics accuse rights activists of promoting liberal Western values and disrespecting religious and cultural mores.
On Tuesday, dozens of events marking International Women’s Day – known as the Aurat March in Pakistan – were held across the country.

Non-violent counterprotests, dubbed “hijab marches”, were also staged by women from conservative religious groups in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad where participants called for the preservation of Islamic values.

In the eastern city of Lahore, city authorities urged organizers to cancel the rally over safety concerns, threatening security would not be provided.

However, following a legal challenge, the Lahore High Court ruled the event could go ahead and authorities agreed to provide protection.

The women marched through the streets in a jovial atmosphere, chanting slogans such as “Give respect to women” and “End the patriarchy”.

They were guarded by riot police – and greeted by a small band of men chanting “end this obscenity”.

Student Sairah Khan, 23, cited recent high-profile cases of brutal violence against women “without consequences” for her attendance.

In Karachi – Pakistan’s largest city – about 1,000 women gathered in a festive atmosphere, with organisers conducting security checks as police stood by idly.

“We have only one slogan: ‘Equal wages, protection and peace’,” one woman chanted from a stage.

In the capital city of Islamabad, about 200 women rallied outside the city’s press club.

“We have come to raise our voices and highlight our issues,” said student Fatima Shahzad.

They were outmatched by more than 400 counter-protesters from conservative religious parties.

But organizer Farzana Bari pledged, “We will continue to assert ourselves.”

“These are the women who refused to bow down,” she told the AFP news agency.
In 2020, groups of men turned up in vans and hurled stones at women as they marched through Islamabad.
Doctored videos and photos of last year’s events were spread online that even appeared on popular television shows, falsely accusing women of chanting or carrying blasphemous slogans – an act which carries the death penalty in Pakistan.

PPP's 'Awami March' heads for Islamabad with clock ticking on Bilawal's ultimatum to PM Imran

  • "Awami March" to arrive at Islamabad's at D-Chowk in evening.
  • PDM leadership to attend rally.
  • Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has given a 24-hour ultimatum to PM Imran Khan to resign.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will lead his party's "Awami March" to Islamabad today (Tuesday) after the district administration allowed the party to end its rally, that began from Karachi, at D-Chowk.

The march is headed towards the capital a day after Bilawal gave Prime Minister Imran Khan 24 hours to resign, dissolve the assembly or get ready to be ousted via a no-confidence motion.

Sources have told Geo News that the district administration has issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the PPP to end it's march with a rally at D-Chowk, which, according to the text of the notification will take place from 4-8pm today.

In case any state or private property is damaged the PPP will be held responsible for it, the letter said, according to sources.

The sources have also said that Pakistan Democratic Movement's (PDM) leadership will also take part in the march, with alliance chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman informing Bilawal about the decision.

Bilawal's ultimatum

In his address to the participants of the "Awami March" at Lalamusa on Monday, Bilawal gave a 24-hour ultimatum to PM Imran to resign. He said the "selected" prime minister and his government would be sent packing through all democratic means if he does not resign.

However, he added, “umpire’s neutrality would be tested when the no-confidence motion would be presented in the assembly”.

He said the "selected" had become frightened to the extent that he had started abusing the Opposition leaders and calling them names.

The PPP chairman said his party started the "Awami March" from Karachi on February 27, and people kept joining it on the way to Islamabad.

The illegitimate puppet Imran will be removed- Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the puppet Imran still has a little time left to resign, dissolve the assembly so that free and fair elections can take place. Otherwise, the Jiyalas are coming to dislodge him. Today, every political party of the opposition is demanding a no-confidence against him.
Chairman PPP on his way to Islamabad briefly addressed Jiyalas at Sara-e-Alamgir and Jhelum and expressed his gratitude for coming out in great numbers to welcome the Awami march. He beckoned them to join the Awami march for their own rights.
At Gujar Khan, a humungous crowd welcomed their leader by raising the zealous slogan of ‘Prime Minister, Bilawal’. Chairman PPP addressing the crowd said that those who used to say that the PPP has ended in Punjab should open their eyes. Punjab was of the PPP yesterday, is of the PPP today and will be of the PPP tomorrow. The people of Punjab are loyal to the martyrs. They sided with Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and used to raise the slogan of ‘Chaaron Subon Ki Zanjeer, Benazir Benazir’. The PPP gave a federal constitution to the country, 18th Amendment and the NFC Award. The PPP gave rights to the provinces and made them the owners of their resources.
Chairman Bilawal said that the conspiracy against PPP was in fact a conspiracy against the people of Pakistan. Quaid-e-Awam was martyred so that the poor would be left hapless but Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto thwarted this effort and opposed dictators Zia and Musharraf while challenging the extremists and terrorists. This puppet has made the lives of the people hell. He gave relief to the rich and crushed the poor. The PPP always looked after the poor people of Pakistan. At a time when the world was facing the worst recession, President Zardari introduced the BISP, increased salaries and pensions. 10000 employees of the Pakistan Steel Mills have been made jobless by this puppet. He was doing the same to the 16000 government employees but despite being in the opposition, the PPP got them restored on their jobs.
We will form a government of labourers, farmers, youth and women so that they can get their right to rule, right to ownership, right to employment. This is democracy. We said that democracy is the best revenge. We do not accept this selected puppet and will establish democracy after removing him. We want one Pakistan irrespective of religion, caste, creed, language etc. We want you to become a part of this Awami march. Tomorrow, we will reach D-Chowk in Islamabad and will start the process of removing the selected, incapable, illegitimate puppet that is Imran Khan.

#Pakistan #PPP - Who is Zulfikar Ali Bhutto? '' A legend, still ruling hearts and minds '' - Long Live Bhuttoism….

By Mwaqar

The possibility of the secular, democratic Pakistan that he had in mind, like Pakistan 's founder, Jinnah has earned ZAB the title of Quaid-i-Awam Z. A. Bhutto has still more charisma than any politician in Pakistan. Mr Bhutto was inducted into office as the President of Pakistan in 1971 and was removed in 1977, both events took place around midnight; one in the wake of a war and the other in the shadow of a civil war. In between he gave the country what even his sympathizers and admirers would concede was a 'strong' government, he mobilized his country's first mass-based political party around a socialist ideology and highly independent foreign policy.

Pakistan's modernizer Zulfikar Ali Bhutto left deep footprints in the sands of history.
To his lasting credit remains the 1973 Constitution of the country, the Shimla Accord of 1972 which brought the longest peace between India and Pakistan, the social reforms to build an egalitarian society, the non-aligned foreign policy, the nuclear programme and the building of the social, economic and military infrastructure of the country. He was a thinker, author and orator. He was deliberate, discreet, and competent; honest, upright and keeper of his covenants. He was a friend of the poor, downtrodden and oppressed. Fearless in his beliefs he refused to bow before any man or power other than the Almighty. His courage was such that he preferred to face death for his beliefs and embraced martyrdom. He had profound faith in freedom and the liberation of humanity. Under his government, Pakistan gave overt and covert support to the African nations than under apartheid and minority rule. He rejected fanaticism.

He gave pride to the poor.
He gave voice to the voiceless and power to the powerless of the country. He helped them shape their own destiny and the destiny of their country. He was a man of honor who gave honor and raised the honour of his country and his people. He was able to do this because the people of the country from Khyber to the shores of the Arabian sea in Karachi loved him and supported him. Bhutto brought back 90,000 prisoners of war, prevented their war crime trials and also restored the territory lost on the battlefield. As leader of the Third World he spoke boldly against racism, colonialism and imperialism. He fearlessly defended the right of nations to independence. When the 1973 Ramazan war broke out, he sent Pakistan's military to defend the borders of the Muslim countries, including the Golan Heights of Syria. ZAB's short life of 50 years was spent in the service of many international, regional and national causes. The most important and the most enduring legacy of the Quaid-i-Awam was raising the consciousness of the people for democracy.

He awakened the masses, making them realise they were the legitimate fountainhead of political power. He enlightened the farmer, the industrial worker, the student, the woman and the rest of the common people of their importance and of their right of franchise, which is the definite means of bringing changes for the betterment of the lives of the common people. Z. A. Bhutto's rule brought a transformation of Pakistan's rules of the game, a new populist style of governance, a new governmentality, he favoured a much more active role of the state in relation to society, he reshaped the economic and political landscape of Pakistan. He reached out to masses, aroused their feelings and disciplined their minds. The role of Bhutto family in the uplifting of the poor is unforgettable.
Z A Bhutto is the first person in Pakistan who has given voice to the common people.

Z. A. Bhutto remains alive in the hearts of millions of Pakistanis. It was a miracle that in less than half a decade a defeated nation had become a significant entity in the comity of nations. Pakistan had friends all around the globe from Africa to the far corner of Asia and from Europe to South America. We were regarded as a nation which had proved itself. Pakistani manpower was exported in the Middle East and the statesmanship of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had started bearing fruit. Under Z A Bhutto's rule, a new vision of Pakistan was born. Within a few years of the defeat in 1971, Pakistan began to see itself not as some beleaguered non-entity in South Asia, as the Indian establishment was prone to see it, but as a strategically located middle-sized power straddling the two worlds of South and West Asia, uniquely poised to take advantage of a host of geopolitical possibilities and enjoying widespread support among the Islamic states. He is one of the few Pakistani leaders that energized the nation and gave it a sense of optimism. Z A Bhutto, saw the future of Pakistan.
Like Jinnah he outwitted Indira Gandhi at Shimla and formed alliances with various world leaders, from Sadaat, to Boumediene to Qaddafi to Faisal. Pakistan survives today because of those alliances that enabled him to build the Nuclear bomb. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto understood the geo-political realities of the region. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has earned a place in the pantheon of leaders from the Third World who earned everlasting fame in the struggle against colonialism and imperialism. He had the privilege of interacting with many of those leaders who played a great role in the epic struggle for national independence in the 20th century, including Mao Tse Tung, Ahmed Soekarno, Chou-en Lai, Gamal Abdel Nasser and Salvador Allende.

During the period between the end of the Second World War and the end of the Cold War, the world was divided into two blocs: The Capitalist West and the Socialist East. All these leaders aspired to aspects of a socialist pattern of economy. Bhutto shared their faith in a leading role for the public sector as an instrument of self-reliance. Bhutto's foundation of the PPP was a setback for the reactionary forces in a country long dominated by the Right. The slogan of "Food, Shelter and Clothing" shifted the focus of Pakistan politics from theological to economic issues. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had the courage of his conviction to decide to lay down his life rather than compromise or seek appeasement.
The last chapter of his life is a glorious example of martyrdom for the cause of resurrection of democracy. At the time of his overthrow, Bhutto was emerging as a spokesman of the World of Islam and the leader of the Third World.
The age of Bhutto was an Age of Revolution, he was the architect of the China Policy, Pakistan Steel Mill, Agriculture Reforms. Although his life and career were cruelly terminated, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto will forever shine in history as one of the Great leaders who took part in the liberation of the Third World from the yoke of Imperialism and Neo Colonialism during the Twentieth Century. He could have easily entered into a deal, as others did, at the cost of principles, to save his life and move out. How cruel it strikes to bring down such a sincere leader like Bhutto with rare caliber, competence and integrity, Bhutto never colluded with generals, he confronted them. Mr. Bhutto remains a memorable figure . He commanded the allegiance of millions of people inside Pakistan, across the Muslim world and in the Third World as a hero of the people. His leadership gave pride to his followers, to his Nation and to oppressed people everywhere. He conquered the hearts of a Nation through supreme qualities of leadership, vision, intellectual breadth, charisma, dauntlessness, bravery, boldness and a programme for political redemption of an exploited people, he built the foundations of education and industrialization in the country. He liberated the small farmers and peasants from the repression and cruelty of big landlords and banished the jagirdari and sardari system declaring that all citizens are born equal and must live with equal rights. The Taliban, the terrorist groups and the new war against terror are the direct result of the overthrow of the modernizing government of Z. A. Bhutto and its replacement by a clique of military officers that cynically used the name of religion to promote their own illegal stay in power.

Quaid e Awam was murdered but his memory lives on in the monuments he built. It lives on in his ideas. And it lives on in the hearts of all men and women who believe that humanity can only progress when there is tolerance, freedom, dignity and equal opportunity for all. Pakistan survived due to the leadership of a bold and courageous leader, a people's leader, who had the vision to break the shackles of poverty to emancipate his people and lead them into a new decade of glory, strength and achievement. Quaid e Awam built the most modern schools, colleges, universities, professional colleges, vocational training institutes, including Quaid-e-Azam University, Allama Iqbal Open University, Chandka Medical College and many others. He built hospitals to take care of the sick and poor. He opened the way for the middle classes to develop and prosper in the fields of medicine, engineering , law and other specialist studies. He introduced peaceful nuclear energy to help treat cancer setting up the first cancer treating institutes in the four provinces of Pakistan. He built roads in the tribal areas and the Northern areas knowing how poor and oppressed people in the distant areas of Pakistan were. Internationally, using his experience as Foreign Minister, he hosted the Islamic Summit Conference in Lahore. It was at this conference that the Palestinian Liberation Organization was recognized as the authentic voice of the Muslims. He advocated closer relations with the Muslim countries arguing for a common economic bloc with banking and other financial institutions long before regional blocs became identified as the economic way forward. Bhutto pushed politics out of the posh drawing rooms into real Pakistan - into the muddy lanes and villages of the poor. Bhutto's inspiring leadership filled Pakistanis with hope, energy and strength.
There was a sense of purpose and direction in the country in pursuit of peace and prosperity. The economic growth rate increased and money poured in from expatriates who got the universal right to passport. The Muslim countries donated roughly $500 million annually to Pakistan, freeing it of international financial institutions. The people got jobs and opportunities. Women of the country were emancipated entering the police force, Foreign, Civil Service and subordinate judiciary for the first time in the country's history. There is a story that the American President John F. Kennedy was much impressed with the then Foreign Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. When they met, Kennedy walked with him in the Rose Garden and said, "Bhutto, if you were an American, you would be in my Cabinet". To which Zulfikar Ali Bhutto smilingly replied, "No, Mr. President. If I were an American, you would be in my cabinet".

Z A Bhutto, was highly skilled negotiator and an international statesman, he secured the agreement between USSR and Pakistan, he signed an agreement with China on demarcation of the Sino-Pak boundary. When he became President, Pakistan had innumerable problems, but he was not a man to be cowed down by knotty problems, he was in fact, a dynamo of inexhaustible and boundless creative energy, he was born to solve problems , he had to tackle the problems of shattered country by a methodical system of fixing priorities. Bhutto the adroit politician and statesman tackled the difficult problems of his country one by one with devotion, determination and patriotic zeal and solved them successfully. Since his assumption of power this great man of vision and destiny, equipped with resolute will, extraordinary intelligence and seething patriotic zeal fought successfully against the landlords, capitalists, industrialists, religious fanatics, corrupt bureaucrats, saboteurs, foreign intriguers and spies, he stood like a rock against all odds and achieved national unity, he worked hard for the emancipation of the exploited working class and illiterate masses. His cruel and barbaric murder by military despots caused revulsion across the globe, Z A Bhutto dedicated his life to remove the sorrows from the hearts of the poor and the oppressed, to remove the tears from the children of his poor nation. He lived consciously to make history and to leave a legacy in the form of the development of his nation, his fight was a fight against the policies of IMF, which serve to perpetuate the backwardness of the developing nations.
Bhutto is rightfully credited with saving Pakistan at this dark moment in its history, as French President Giscard d'Estaing said, "he was the man who incarnated Pakistan at a dramatic hour of its history. Tolstoy in the last volume of his War and Peace expressed that history is a movement of ideas in which political leaders play a minor role. Sometimes the movement of ideas is indeed rapid. Yet, at times, the movement of ideas is slower than the melting of the glaciers. The movement of ideas is facilitated in a vibrant political and democratic culture, which gives room for dissent and disagreement. In dictatorial societies, history remains static in a cold freeze. And so it was in Pakistan before Quaid-i-Awam. He was the one who converted that static and decayed dictatorial polity into a vibrant and dynamic democratic society; the cost of which he paid with his own life. He who gave his blood, and the blood of his sons and daughter.

Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, knew that there can be no sacrifice greater than the sacrifice for the people whose respect, honour and dignity is the respect and dignity of the Nation. Quaid e Awam made the people proud of themselves and of their Nation. The 20th century has seen many great leaders, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is one of them. Due to his glorious achievements, Mr. Bhutto rules the hearts of the Pakistani people from his grave. He was not only the leader of Pakistan, he was the leader of an Islamic world, the leader of Third World. He will forever be remembered by his countrymen as Quaid-e-Awam. As his followers say, "Zinda Hai Bhutto, Zinda Hai"--Bhutto lives, he lives. Indeed he does, in the hearts of all those who dream of a better tomorrow.
