Pakistan - KU VICE CHANCELLOR SAYS ENTIRE COUNTRY FACES SECURITY ISSUES, LET ALONE VARSITIES

Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Ajmal said that the university administration cannot eliminate terrorism and extremism from the society on its own, as the entire country — not just the university — has been facing security-related issues.
Despite his denial of presence of organised militant groups on the university campus, he tried to play down it saying that unfortunately, the affairs of KU were being "exaggerated in media." He further said that no decision has been taken as yet in connection with asking the students to submit character certificates. "We do not want to irritate students and their parents," he said.
The security institutions are responsible for [the security of] the university, he said, adding that they [law enforcement agencies] are monitoring the university and the administration is always ready to cooperate with them.
He, however, made it clear that the administration has not yet decided to provide the data of its students to security institutions.

He was addressing a press conference, the first after a former KU student Karim Sarosh Siddiqui was accused of planning assassination of the leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izharul Hassan.
Dr Ajmal tried to clarify that KU cannot eliminate extremism from the society but can only contribute in the process. "The whole country is facing the same issues and the entire nation will have to play its role in this regard," he maintained.
