Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid tribute to Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Gurus, on his 548th birth anniversary being celebrated across the world including his birthplace Pakistan.
Although Guru Nanak was born on 15th April in the Gregorian calendar, his birthday falls on the day with a full moon in the Katak month of the calendar that the Sikhs follow. This means that the birth anniversary is celebrated sometime between October and November, depending on the year, in a weeklong festival. This year it falls on the 14th of November.
Thousands are gathering at Nankana Sahib in Punjab from across the world to pay homage to Guru Nanak, who professed love, peace, and harmony.
Bilawal Bhutto welcomed the pilgrims and urged them to carry the message of Guru Nanak Devji to the world, which needs more peace and tolerance now than it did in the past.
The PPP Chairman said that his party was a true torch-bearer of the ideology of the founding fathers of Pakistan and would continue its struggle for the provision of equal rights to non-Muslim Pakistanis so that they can freely observe their festivals and rituals without any fear.\
