Accountability of Sharif family unlikely without passage of PPP’s bill: Bilawal

PPP chief seeks help of all political parties in forcing government to accept their four demands * Aitzaz says Qatari prince’s letter holds no significance.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday urged all the political parties to join the PPP in pressing the government to accept his party’s four demands.
In a message on Twitter, Bilawal emphasised that the judiciary would not be able to hold the Sharifs accountable until approval of the Panama bill proposed by his party.
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Sunday said the Qatari princes’s letter holds no significance.
Speaking to reporters outside late PPP leader Jahangir Badr’s residence in Lahore, Aitzaz Ahsan alleged that the government comes up with a new fabricated story every other day.
He said there is a contradiction between the statements of the Sharif family members, but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif cannot escape accountability.
On the other hand, PPP’s Saeed Ghani said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s faulty policies have strengthened Nawaz Sharif.
The letter by Qatari prince Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al-Thani supports the Sharif family’s claim that no money was laundered from Pakistan.
The prince said in the letter that Nawaz Sharif’s father sold his business in Dubai in the early 1980s and invested 12 million dirhams in the real estate business of the Al-Thani family in Qatar.
The letter says flats number 17, 17A, 16 and 16A at Avenfield House, Park Lane, London — which are now owned by the Sharifs — were registered in the names of two offshore companies and were purchased from the proceedings of the real estate business.
He said morally Nawaz is standing before the court as an accused in Panama Papers scandal.
In a statement issued by PPP media office Islamabad, Senator Ghani said that it is ironic that the Sharif family was unaware of business partnership in Qatar for the last over four decades.
He said the name of Saifur Rehman is being associated with the prince of Qatar who claimed partnership in business with the Sharifs. Everyone knows that Saifur Rehman is well-known for his shady business deals.
He is the same person who created and initiated false and concocted cases against slain PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto and former president Asif Zardari in the past and had abused judicial process.
Senator Saeed Ghani said Nawaz Sharif is a very clear example of what goes around comes around. What Nawaz had done to former slain prime minister Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari in the past is now haunting him. He said that investigations into Panama Papers scandal could only be conducted through the terms of reference prepared by the opposition in parliament. There is still time for Nawaz Sharif to accept four demands of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Senator Saeed Ghani concluded.
