The contradiction between viewpoints of people associated with two major departments of the federal government with regard to Daesh’s presence in Pakistan was seen when Foreign Office’s spokesperson in his weekly briefing on Thursday denied Daesh’s presence in Pakistan and said that no proofs had been found about regarding Daesh’s organized presence in Pakistan whereas Director General of Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan while briefing Senate’s standing committee two days ago has said that “Daesh’s network was caught in Punjab and hundreds of militants of the terrorist group were arrested after Safoora Goth incident in May last year”.
He further said that Daesh could emerge in the country because several terrorist organizations sympathize with it, especially LeJ and Sipah e Sahaba.
Nafees Zakaria, who was giving his first press briefing on Thursday after being appointed as the FO spokesperson, when asked about DG IB’s statement, he denied commenting on that and said that FO should be consulted regarding further details about the matter.
PML-N is widely known for supporting banned terrorist organizations, particularly Sipah e Sahaba which is being identified as the major sympathizer of Daesh in Pakistan by DG IB Aftab Sultan.
