Remembering the legend : Nation will pay homage to Salmaan Taseer tomorrow

The fifth death anniversary of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer would be observed across the country tomorrow (Monday).

Candlelit vigils and ceremonies would be observed in different parts of the city to pay homage to the gallant leader and salute his unforgettable services for the nation. The civil society organisations will hold a candlelit vigil at his 5th death anniversary at 4:30pm at Liberty Roundabout where prayers for the departed soul would be offered.

A civil society activist Abdullah Malik said, "We condemn extremism and terrorism in the country, as the extremists pose a negative agenda and want to impose their thoughts by keeping others at the firing end of a gun. The civil society will not allow them to ruin the society."

In the eye of law and religion, no individual has the right to kill any citizen at his will, as it is against human dignity, he added.

Malik further said that the civil society demands the killer of late Salmaan Taseer to be hanged till death in order to fulfil the requirements of justice and law.

"We also demand National Action Plan (NAP) to be implemented in true letter and spirit if we are to meet the Quaid's dream of a peaceful Pakistan and everyone should participate in the candlelit vigil to record their protest against brutality," he added.
