Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNAs Mir Munawar Talpur, Faqir Sher Mohammad Balalani and Imran Zafar Leghari hailing from interior Sindh warned the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to do not consider passing the summary for the construction of the most controversial Kala Bagh Dam as three of four provinces of Pakistan had always been very furious over the KBD, which if approved would make the country a battle field and the ongoing war against terror.
They said that the KBD had in past sparked severe countrywide protest and the people of Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa and Sindh took the KBD issue as a matter of life and death. The two provinces believed the construction of the KBD would only benefit Punjab and the two provinces would either drown in floods during heavy rainfall and floods while the Punjab would have the switch button to keep the water flow on and off as and when Punjab would deem it fit for the irrigation of agri fields in Punjab.
The PPP MNAs said the main stream political parties of the three provinces except those that had their bases in Punjab were absolutely against the KBD, which should have so far been buried but the recent developments were exposing the designs of the PMLN federal government that it would certainly choose to commit a suicide by signing the summary for the construction of the KBD.
They said there were other options for water reservoirs and for generating electricity through hydal system and hence the KBD was simply an unrealistic approach for finding ways to overcome the two crises. The PMLN federal government should rather focus on construction of smaller dams and bury the KBD once for all or else the unrest that would follow the approving of the summary could not be controlled and the PPP would be at the forefront as opposition.
