Zufiqar Mirza’s incessant diatribe against his former friend and patron, Asif Ali Zardari has inflamed the situation in parts of rural Sindh.
The matter has worsened to such an extent that it has now been taken to the police and the courts.
Zulfiqar Mirza has challenged the authority of the state by attacking a police station, a cognisable offence.
The fact that Zulfiqar Mirza was introduced into politics by his friend, who gave top political positions to him and his family, cannot be denied.
It is also true that while in politics, even if in the same party, a difference in opinions about issues is bound to develop, and this was specially likely in the murky atmosphere of politics in Sindh where each and every ruling party has to seek support from the MQM, whose own conduct in the province has been raising eyebrows.
It seems that one of the reasons which spoiled their personal and political relationship has been the overbearing conciliatory approach of the PPP towards MQM, or else some very personal reasons.
Fehmida Mirza could be the only hope of some settlement between the two former friends, but the party cannot get behind the controversial couple.
Asif Ali Zardari has to be watchful about saving the political standing and reputation of the Pakistan People’s Party in rural Sindh where it is already at its lowest for all the correct reasons.
It would be in the larger interest of the Sindhi masses and the party itself if the elders of the party get the issues settled between the former friends by bringing them back to the same platform.
Zulfiqar Mirza needs to understand the fact that whoever leaves the party in Sindh goes into oblivion.
The party will preserved its political interests in the province regardless.
However in the backdrop of poor governance by the Qaim Ali Shah led administration since 2008, the party is a weak shadow of its former self.
