Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP Central has called upon the government to immediately constitute the Judicial Commission of the Supreme Court to investigate the widespread allegations of rigging especially after the publication of White Paper by the PPP on NA-124. He said this in a statement issued from here today.
He said that the PPP was not in favour of destabilizing the government through street politics but at the same time would press the government to investigate the allegations because the question of legitimacy of the whole electoral process was at stake.
He pointed out that the PPP was the affected Party of the manipulation of the electoral results and therefore strongly favored the investigation through the Judicial Commission in order to separate the chaff from the wheat to put the record straight for good reasons.
He maintained that the holding of fair, free and impartial elections was important for the fulfillment of the objectives of the constitution and violation of the process tantamount to failing the purpose of the primary law of the land leading to undermining the whole edifice of the democratic dispensation.
He argued that the investigations would strengthen the democratic process in the country as no one would contemplate to engage in the illicit practices to steal the mandate of the people in future.
He said that the PTI had also been pressing hard for the investigation of the rigging allegations and now the second largest Party in the Parliament was also pushing for the same adding government should take it seriously for the sake of the unity required to fight out the evil of extremism and terrorism.
He said it would be unfair on the part of the government to find an excuse of not moving in the direction of the electoral investigation as the country was in a state of war. It is not a plausible justification, he added.
He reiterated that PPP and its leadership had been totally committed to defeat the terrorism on its turf right from the beginning and would continue to support the government and the Army to eliminate the threat at all cost because there was no compromise on our independence. Those who are determined to enforce their narrative as bayonets drawn must be decapitated along with their toxic ideology.
