Oppressed, suppressed and marginalized Christians are suffering in Pakistan on the basis of religion. Pakistani Christians are still in panic due to the tragic and shameful incident of Kot Radha Kishan where a Christian couple was merely burnt alive on the basis of religion. A new incident took place in Chak No.216 GB, Samundri, Pakistan where houses of 13 Christian families have been demolished by the Town Municipal Administration Samundri under the pressure of the influential people of the village just because they refused to bonded labour without any penny. These poor Christian people work in the brick kilns. On their refusal they asked the local administration that they want to build the hospital which was already built about 20 years back but the hospital is non-functional from day one. The hospital has become a cattle shed for the last many years. This hospital is without boundary walls, window and doors. The lives of the Christians are in miserable conditions as the Muslims planned to disturb the lives of these marginalized Christians. There are 72 Christian families in the village. It is so sad that the houses of Christians are mostly in a corner of the village so that they may not be mixed with the people of the majority religion. Professor Anjum James Paul, Chairman Pakistan Minorities Teachers Association spent time on the International Human Rights Day 2014 with these suppressed people. This was the day when daughter of the soil of Pakistan Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai was receiving Nobel Prize. Professor Paul condemned the act of demolishing of the houses of the poor families. He continued to say that shame on such elements who destroy the peace of mind and properties of the marginalized Christian community. Professor Paul said that the Christians are awakened now and even illiterate Christians were demanding for the minority elected members in the parliament of Pakistan instead of the selected members because Muslim members always say, “Go to your member of the parliament." They do not take any interest in the minority issues and favour only their Muslim community. He said that these helpless people need the support to construct their houses as they are leading their lives in severe cold without any shelter. They need your support in this regard which will be appreciated. Professor Paul said that this is the responsibility of the state to provide shelter to all citizens as guaranteed in the constitutions of Pakistan Let us see when they are granted equal rights and shelter in their homeland. |
