Pakistan - Following Lahore and Khanewal, pro-IS campaign appears in Bannu: report
Wall-chalking acknowledging and welcoming militant group Islamic State (IS) has now been seen in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following similar incidents in Karachi, Khanewal, Peshawar and Lahore; local newspaper Dawn reported on Friday.
According to the report, pro-IS wall-chalking has appeared in parts of Bannu, including the cantonment area. Bannuu borders North Waziristan; a semi-autonomous tribal area known to be a stronghold of militant outfits. Pakistan Military has been carrying out Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the area; targeting foreign and local militants since June 15.
“We welcome the head of Syrian Daish ( Arabic acronym of IS) Abu Bakkar Al Bagdadi and pay him homage,” , states the wall graffiti in Urdu by ‘Awami Baghi Group Bannu Waziristan’ in areas of City Road, Dera Ismail Khan road, Cantt Road and Miranshah Road of the city.
Wall chalking was reported to be seen on City Road, Cantt Road, Dera Ismail Khan road and Miran Shah road in Bannu.
Last week, pro-IS advertisements and wall-chalking announcing a ‘caliphate’ and hailing the militant group were seen in Khanewal and Lahore.
Earlier, Balochistan government had issued a threat that IS has recruited more thn 10,000 fighters from Hangu, KP and Kurram Agency.
