The government is mulling over the option of replacing Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar with Makhdoom Javed Hashmi as the matter was discussed in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday.
In the said meeting, the PM reviewed the country’s political and security situation and exchanged notes with his “kitchen cabinet”.
The meeting discussed the country’s overall political situation in the light of the protests and rallies being held by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as well as the recent by-election in Multan, which saw the defeat of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.
Sources said the PM also considered the option of having Javed Hashmi appointed as next Punjab governor. The premier reportedly said he has great respect for Javed Hashmi who “did great job to save the democracy in the country”.
