Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry met in Paris for talks aimed at finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis over Ukraine. Lavrov has said that their positions are "getting closer".
Halfway home from a trip to the Middle East, Secretary Kerry turned back after refueling his plane in Ireland and arrived in Paris late on Saturday. He held talks with Foreign Minister Lavrov on Sunday about a possible diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
Kerry was welcomed at the Russian ambassador's residence in Paris by Lavrov and the two men posed for a photograph before starting a meeting on a plan to ease the worst East-West standoff since the end of the Cold War.
The talks are being held behind closed doors.
