Altaf Hussain calls for a ‘military take over’

In a surprising statement on Tuesday, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief, Altaf Hussain called upon the military to come forward for a take over of the country in case the army and government fail to come on the same page. “We will have to decide between saving Pakistan and democracy,” Altaf Husain stressed in a statement issued from London, adding, ‘there will be a democracy, if there is Pakistan’. The MQM Chief stated that he could care less if anyone says he was inviting dictatorship in the country. He said he would rather support the idea of resolution of issues through a dialogue but stressed that ‘first the writ of the state and Constitution will have to be established; a ceasefire and dialogue come next’. Altaf Hussain exhorted the government to establish a fund for the families of the martyrs of law enforcers. MQM, he added, will also contribute its share to this fund. The statement from the MQM supreme comes at a time when the country is being run under a democratic set up following a smooth transfer of power from a similar dispensation in the wake of May 2013 elections.
