The President of Shia Ulema Council Sheikh Manzoor Hussain was shot dead along with his son Haider Ali shortly before Friday prayers.
As a reaction people protested against the killing and pelted stones on police officials.
According to information clashes between the protesters and security forces left several people injured while Rangers were called in to control the situation.
