Pakistan felicitates Afghanistan for initiating security takeover from NATO, ISAF

Pakistan has felicitated Afghanistan for initiating the taking over of security from international forces, and expressed solidarity with the war-torn country.

"We have noted the important statement made by President Karzai in Kabul regarding the transfer of security and development responsibilities from NATO/ISAF to the Afghan government. We felicitate President Karzai on the initiation of this process and wish him and the Afghan government every success," Pakistan's Foreign office said in a statement.

"As a sincere well-wisher of the Afghan people, we are confident that the proud Afghan nation with great history and traditions is itself eminently qualified to forge a glorious future that accords with its national aspirations," it added.

The Foreign Office said that Pakistan deeply values its relations with Afghanistan and sincerely wishes stability, peace and prosperity for the Afghan people.

"Pakistan will continue to stand by the Afghan nation. We will also continue to work closely with Afghanistan for realizing the immense potential of common and mutually beneficial development," it maintained.

Karzai had said on Tuesday that Afghan forces would take over security from NATO this summer in areas including the Helmand capital, launching the transition as foreign troops plan withdrawal by the end of 2014.
