Sikh groups in India protest outside Pakistan High Commission after attack on #NankanaSahib
Several Sikh groups were to protest outside Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi on Saturday to condemn the attack by a huge Muslim mob on the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara.
The attack on the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, in Pakistan has triggered protests among Sikhs in India.
While several Sikh groups were to protest outside Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi on Saturday to condemn the attack, Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise the issue with his counterpart in Islamabad Imran Khan since Sikh minorities in the country were feeling extremely unsafe and insecure.
On Friday, the Gurdwara was attacked by a huge Muslim mob while Sikh devotees were stuck inside the shrine.
The mob that had gathered outside raised communal and hateful slogans against the minority community and pelted stones on the shrine, videos circulated on social media showed.
Pakistani sources said the mob was led by the family of Mohammed Hassan, the man who had abducted and converted a sick girl Jagjit Kaur, to protest police action against him.
The Nankana Saheb attack is violative of the 1955 Pant-Mirza Agreement under which India and Pakistan are obliged "to make every effort to ensure that the places of worship" visited by members of their countries "are properly maintained and their sanctity preserved."
In a late-night media briefing, Pakistan's Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee President Satpal Singh, on behalf of the Sikh community, asked the government to act against the hooligans to restore peace.
In an official statement, India strongly condemned the destruction and desecration of the holy shrine.
India has called upon Pakistan to take immediate steps to ensure safety security and welfare of the Sikh community.
Nankana Sahib vandalism proof of persecution in Pakistan
Hundreds of angry residents of Nankana Sahib pelted stones at the revered gurdwara and Sikh pilgrims, this is how minorities are persecuted in Pakistan.
As reports came in of an attack and stone-pelting on the revered Sikh shrine of Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, BJP leaders and Union ministers grabbed the opportunity to build a case for the contentious Citizenship Act (CAA), saying the incident shows how minorities in Pakistan are persecuted and why they need citizenship in India.
Reports suggested a mob attacked the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara near Lahore on Friday and pelted stones at Sikh pilgrims after an altercation broke out between two groups.
The External Affairs Ministry said members of the minority Sikh community in Pakistan have been subjected to acts of violence in Nankana Sahib.
On Saturday, Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, "These are wanton acts of vandalism, arson and stone-pelting against one of the holiest Sikh shrines. If any more proof was needed on the state of minorities in Pakistan then this is it."
Persecution of religious minorities in Pakistan is real.
Fringe 'secularists' opposing CAA in India should stop living in denial & listen to slogans like "हम बदला लेंगे सिखों से" & "हम चीर देंगे सिखों को" being raised in Sri Nankana Sahib Ji.
Do they need more proof?

He added, "Vandalism, stone-pelting and acts of desecration at the holiest of holy Sri Nankana Sahib Gurudwara yesterday should be an eye-opener for those who refuse to recognize religious persecution of minorities in Pakistan and the rationale behind CAA."
Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir also made a similar pitch in favour of the citizenship law and said, "Death threats and stone pelting to innocent tourists to support forcible conversion of a girl! This is Pakistan and that is why India Supports CAA. Meanwhile, Pakistan army's puppet is busy making a fool of himself by tweeting fake videos."
According to PTI, a group of people, led by the family of a Muslim man who married a Sikh teenager, held a day-long sit-in outside Gurdwara Janamesthan Nanakana Sahib on Friday to protest the arrest of their relatives who were held for alleged forced conversion of the girl.

According to police, the man named Hassan married 18-year-old Jagjit Kaur in September last year after abducting her and converting her to Islam.
During their protest a mob attack took place at the shrine. Reports suggested that hundreds of angry residents at Nankana Sahib pelted the Sikh pilgrims with stones on Friday.
Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, also known as the Gurdwara Janam Asthan, is the site where the first Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak, was born. It is regarded as one of the holiest Sikh sites.
