Bilawal asks PM to shun ‘dictatorial tactics’ against PIA staffers

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday condemned the use of force against the protesting employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which resulted in killing of two employees.

Bilawal urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to shun the dictatorial attitude towards innocent masses. Bilawal asked the prime minister to desist from adopting dictatorial tactics to silence democratic rights of protest of PIA employees, PPP’s media cell wrote on its official Twitter account.

His statement came a few hours after the protesting workers of PIA clashed with the Rangers and the police while marching towards Jinnah International airport. Water canon was used to disperse the employees who are protesting against the proposed privatization of PIA.

He also expressed sympathies and solidarity with the employees of national flag carrier and assured them that the PPP stands against the privatisation of national assets for peanuts and stands with the just cause of the labour class in the country.

A large number of employees under the banner of Joint Action Committee staged protest in front of Jinnah Terminal in Karachi. Situation got intense when the law enforcement personnel fire rubber bullets, tear gas shells and used water cannon to disperse the agitated protestors.
