Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senators Dr Karim Khawaja, Ajiz Dhamra and Engineer Gyan Chand while terming the statement of federal finance minister Ishaq Dar on PIA as ridiculous said it was a joke the federal minister has made with the nation and the country.
In a statement issued from the PPP Media Cell Sindh, they said if Dar believes he is correct then what he would say about a Presidential Ordinance on privatisation of PIA and about a recent statement from the President of Pakistan in which he had said that since Pakistan has borrowed money from the IMF so conditions of the IMF should also be accepted and implemented.
They said selling 26 percent of shares of the PIA is tantamount to mortgaging this national strategic institution to private contractors. It is same as was seen from privatisation of Karachi Electric, which consequences have affected the people and the country.
They said the federal government has to withdraw the Presidential Ordinance and the protest being started by the employees of the PIA would be fully supported by the PPP. The PPP would resist all attempts to privatise the PIA. Ishaq Dar should stop deceiving the nation.
