Pakistan - Medics protest nonpayment of salary

Hundreds of paramedics and doctors on Friday staged a protest against nonpayment of their salaries for last six months.
The protesters also included class-IV employees working in the 41 basic health units of Swat.
A BHU employee said despite non-payment of salaries they had been performing their duties.
The protesters said they had met with the relevant authorities requesting them to order release of their withheld salary, but to no avail.
Setting a deadline of December 15, the disgruntled medics said if they didn’t get their salaries till that date, they would boycott the coming anti-polio campaign starting on December 17.
When contacted, District Health Officer Syed Ali Khan told Dawn that only salaries of the contract staff working in the PPHI project had been delayed. However, he said the process of payment of salaries had been fast-tracked.
