Pakistan - Books, not guns: ANP leader emphasises need to revise curriculum

Awami National Party Central General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain has emphasised the need to revise the curriculum to promote equality.
He was speaking at a seminar organised by Rasheed Shaheed Foundation at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday. “The gun culture has decreased the value of education,” Mian Iftikhar said. “Guns and weapons are being promoted in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa instead of books and pens.”
He added, “The education system has become the root of countless problems.” The central general secretary said the current curriculum contains hate material which has eradicated peace from society. According to Mian Iftikhar, all hate material should be removed from textbooks.
“Furthermore, a curriculum should be designed to account for all faiths,” he added. The ANP leader also announced the establishment of technical institutions where education would be free.
