Hundreds of Czechs Protest Against Islam Spread in Prague

More than 600 people took to the streets in Prague to protest against the spread of Islam in the Czech Republic Friday.

The demonstration that took place in front of the president's residence was organized by the group "We Do Not Want Islam In The Czech Republic". According to the police, there have been no incidents during the protest.
"We want to protect the Czech traditions from any faith, and that is why we have drafted the amendments to the law on religions that are aimed at prevention of the spread of radical ideas among the population," member of parliament Marek Cernoch stated during the demonstration.
According to the opinion poll published on Thursday, almost 90 percent of the Czech population favour stricter entry rules and regulations for granting resident permits.
According to the chairman of the Center of Muslim Communities in the Czech Republic, a number of Muslims in the country have suffered insults, such as offensive e-mails, following the terror attacks in Paris.
At present, the Muslim community in the Czech Republic accounts for some 10,000 – 20,000 people. The local intelligence services have not registered any signs of extremist activities in the country in the recent years.
