Pakistan: Court drops contempt case against Zardari

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday disposed-off contempt proceedings against former president Asif Ali Zardari over alleged anti- judiciary statements and using derogatory remarks against the former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

A one-judge bench of Chief Justice Anwar Khan Kasi said that the petition was not maintainable as the petitioner Riaz Hanif Rahi failed to provide relevant documents and proofs to the court. The petitioner in his petition pleaded that former president in his speeches in public meetings disgraced the judiciary by using abusive language. The applicant Rahi also took plea that Zardari had targeted the superior judiciary and called the former chief justice “Dajjal” while such words come under the ambit of contempt of superior judiciary.
