Pakistan: ANP leader gunned down in Karachi

Unknown gunmen shot dead a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Orangi Town area of the city on Sunday. According to police, Dr Ziauddin was going to offer Isha prayer at a mosque when the gunmen targeted him. A spokesman for the Pakhtun nationalist party said that the deceased, a president of ANP District West, was already receiving threats. The body was shifted to a hospital and later handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities. A large number of ANP workers staged a protest outside the Chief Minister House and demanded of the authorities to arrest the killers. The road leading to the Chief Minister House was blocked for the traffic due to the protest. The ANP called off the protest following negotiations with the provincial authorities after midnight.
