Pakistan: Number of polio cases reaches 158 after 13 more cases emerged

The number of polio victims in the country during the current year has reached 158 after 13 new polio cases were confirmed by the polio virology laboratory of the national institute of health.
Out of new polio cases, seven emerged in the volatile federally administered tribal areas (FATA), three in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one case each in Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan.
Pakistan is among three countries where the crippling virus is endemic; the other two are Afghanistan and Nigeria.
In May, the Worth Health Organization (WHO) imposed strict travel restrictions on Pakistan due to increasing cases of polio in the country, making it mandatory for Pakistani citizens to carry a polio vaccination certificate during foreign travel.
