Who are behind deadly attacks by ISIL in Iraq?

As militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group intensify their bloody campaign in Iraq, questions are raised about their supporters.

Earlier this week, Militants from the al-Qaeda-linked ISIL took over the capital of Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh. They continued their bloody rampage on Iraqi civilians in other regions but were met with heavy handed response from the Iraqi army.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has asked the parliament to declare a state of emergency in the wake of the ISIL attacks.

Takfiri groups, such as the ISIL, are reportedly coming to Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to undermine security in the country. Maliki says Saudi Arabia and Qatar are responsible for the security crisis in Iraq.

Meanwhile, the Syrian government says the terrorist groups in Iraq are directly linked to the Takfiri militants operating in Syria.
