Swedish Aid Worker Shot In Pakistan, In Critical Condition

An elderly Swedish aid worker is fighting for her life in eastern Pakistan after being shot earlier this week. Officials from her Full Gospel Assembly charity said Bargeeta Almby is still unconscious after surgery on December 3 for gunshot wounds to the chest. The 72-year-old was attacked by unknown assailants on December 3 as she drove back to her home in the eastern city of Lahore. Police say no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Almby has lived in Pakistan for 38 years and her Christian charity runs an orphanage and adult-literacy projects in the city. She is the second Western aid worker targeted in Lahore in recent years. Warren Weinstein, a 71-year-old American, was kidnapped in Lahore in August 2011 and is still missing.
