President Zardari Visit to South Korea

President Asif Ali Zardari has offered to set up an economic zone exclusively for South Korean investors in Pakistan. Speaking at a luncheon hosted in his honour by South Korean President Lee Myung Bak in Seoul‚ he said Pakistan enjoys great geo-strategic location in the region and offers the best opportunities for investors. President Zardari asked the South Korean investors to seize the opportunity and make investment in Pakistan. He said Pakistan wants to benefit from the experiences of South Korea‚ which has achieved a splendid progress in a short span of time. The President said although the Afghan war caused immense difficulties for Pakistan yet it is determined to carry the war on terror to its logical end. He said that rooting out of terrorism is vital for the progress and prosperity in the region. Asif Ali Zardari said Islamabad-Lahore motorway is an example of the friendship between the two countries. The South Korean President expressed the hope that the bilateral relations will further strengthen with the visit of President Zardari. He said democracy is flourishing and rights of the minorities are fully protected in Pakistan under the leadership of President Zardari.Earlier‚ in their meeting‚ the two Presidents agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations in all fields with special focus on trade and economy. The two countries also signed two Memorandums of Understandings to enhance cooperation various economic fields. Earlier‚ a warm welcome was accorded to President Asif Ali Zardari when he arrived at the Presidential palace in Seoul. He was received by South Korean President on his arrival and a contingent of armed forces presented guard of honour. Both the countries also signed two Memoranda of Understanding to enhance cooperation in various fields. Under the first MoU‚ South Korea will provide financial assistance to Pakistan to improve various sectors of economy. The other MoU provides South Korean cooperation for improvement of Pakistan Railways. President Asif Ali Zardari and his South Korean counterpart also witnessed the signing ceremony. Delegations of multinational companies Samsung and LOTTE led by their chief executives separately called on President Zardari in Seoul and discussed means to further promote their investment in Pakistan.
