Bhutto was a rose, crushed by a dictator, yet its fragrance has enraptured villages, cities, towns, streets and hearts of the people of Pakistan. Even death mourns the last of legends like Bhutto. As many as thirty one years have passed but the scent of that rose is still lingering in the air defying all attempts to suppress it. The charisma of Bhutto’s personality can still be felt throughout length and breadth of Pakistan. Time is meaningless, dust is helpless and opponents are powerless to erase Bhutto’s memories. His voice still echoes in the minds, his ideology still guides leaders and his philosophy still gives hope to live. Indeed, even this is nothing before the larger than life personality of Bhutto because words lose their power, mind fails to elaborate and heart shudders to discuss this great legend. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who was born on January 5, 1928, in Larkana, a small town in the province of Sindh was, undeniably, the messenger of new standards in the politics of Pakistan and Third World. It was he who altered the dimensions of peoples struggle and introduced them with real democracy and gave them courage of speaking for own rights. He gave the nation democratic awareness and valued the layman. Prior to him a common man in Pakistan was not familiar with democratic his rights. For long, Pakistan was deprived of acceptable constitution and Z.A Bhutto gave the nation a compact Constitution. Since the first day of Pakistan the Role of Religion in the affairs of State, the degree of Provincial Autonomy, and the Nature of Executive were points of quarrel. Political forces in the country were isolated and at dagger drawn over constitutional process. Shaheed Z.A Bhutto made it possible to bring all the political parties to agree to a harmony on the new Constitution. He was a man of Iron determination; his resolve mocked the hardest of rocks and his wisdom overpowered history. He did not learn to bow, he did not learn to compromise, he did not bend to succumb. He only knew how to fight, how to struggle and how to achieve. Even the death has failed to eradicate his immortality. His short spam of rule was glorious, incompatible and magnificent. In a true sense it was Bhutto who, after Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, resurrected Pakistan to life. Today, we proudly aver Pakistan as an inconvincible state, just because of the unrivalled struggle of Bhutto. He had a dream to make Pakistan strong and prosperous, fearless and capable of defending its honour under any circumstances and the seed he sowed has become a powerful tree that cannot be uprooted even by mighty hurricanes. Quaid-e-Azam founded Pakistan and Z.A Bhutto Shaheed, ensured its independence till the end of this universe. He loved nothing, not even a life of luxury, except Pakistan and its poor and downtrodden people. His love for the dalits of Society was eternal and perhaps that became his sole crime. He loved oppressed people and they, to this day, love Bhutto. No one can dare snatch away this privilege from them. He was not wrong at all to say, every one among you is Bhutto and today Bhutto lives in every heart, every mind, every soul and in every thought. Bhutto’s charm is still reflective in every citizen. He still speaks, he still breathes, and he still lives, because until a single individual of Pakistan is alive, Bhutto is alive. Those who want to eliminate Bhutto’s name, would have to first eliminate Pakistan. Never has history witnessed a usurper being vanquished but Bhutto defeated a usurper, grasper and autocrat and what a shameful setback it was for his arch rival. He accepted the gallows but refused to submit. History is silent, historians are dumbfounded and eye witnesses are too overwhelmed. Bhutto left 170 million heirs while the dictator could not leave a single follower. We have all attained immortality as we are not afraid of gallows or trouncing or illegal usurpers because we are all Bhuttos. With the help of Judiciary on April 4, 1979 the rose was put to death by the Zia-ul-Haq the dictator of that time aiming to kill the voice of poor oppressed people of Pakistan forever but Bhutto is still ruling from his grave.
