Sadiq Sanjrani was ready to take oath to join PPP, claims Bilawal

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday claimed that Sadiq Sanjrani had promised him he would join the PPP after being elected Senate Chairman and was also ready to take oath on holy Quran.

He said this while attending a dinner hosted by Senator Islamuddin Sheikh at his residence in Islamabad. PPP Central President for Women’s Wing and Member Sindh Assembly Faryal Talpur, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Farhatullah Babar, Naveed Qamar, Faisal Karim Kundi, Abdul Qadir Patel, Saad Rafique, Latif Khosa, Amjad Afridi, Noman Sheikh and Arsalan Sheikh attended the dinner. Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) panel members Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Abdul Ghafoor Haideri also attended the dinner.

The PPP chairman said that an old video of Sadiq Sanjrani is allegedly circulating on social media. “No one knows why we voted for Sadiq Sanjrani as Senate chairman. At that time, some of our colleagues from Punjab thought that we cannot be partner in politics with the PML-N. Independent Senator, Sadiq Sanjrani came to my house at that time and asked me to help in getting him elected as Chairman Senate.

Bilawal said, “I forbade Sanjrani from taking oath on holy Quran and said that his words are trusted, on the basis of which he got support in the Senate; Sadiq Sanjrani did not keep his promise.”

He said that government spokespersons are constantly trying to drag institutions into politics by declaring Sadiq Sanjrani as the state’s candidate.

PDM will oppose the puppet government in the Senate tomorrow, Bilawal said. It has been decided that under no circumstances will the chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate be from the ruling PTI.

He said: “It is in the interest of the country to allow politicians to play their positive role. If a PDM panel is elected in the Senate, then Yousuf Raza Gilani and Abdul Ghafoor Haideri will also take care of the senators of opposition political parties.”

#PPP leaders’ joint press conference in Islamabad

Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Shazia Atta Marri MNA, Secretary Information PPP, Faisal Karim Kundi and Abdul Qadir Patel MNA addressing a joint press conference have said that opposition Senators are receiving threatening telephone calls and the government has lost all ethics to succeed in the Senate chairman and deputy chairman elections. They said that the vote of confidence by the prime minister was illegal and unconstitutional. Prime Minister was the only one in that race and he came first.

PPP leaders said that PDM has already won in the election and the numbers and ethics both are with the PDM candidates. The prime minister must not involve institutions in politics. The government is perplexed in this election like it was in the Senate elections on 3 March. They said that elections are won by law and constitution and not by tactics. PPP has taken serious note of the statement of information minister Shibli Faraz. They said that attempts will be carried out to harm our members. The government is frightened of Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani because he was a popular prime minister.

They said that the PPP has full confidence on its allies and all of them will vote for PDM candidates. They also hoped that the independent and Jamaat-e-Islami will vote for PDM candidates.

They said that the government is going to impose new taxes on the poor people of Pakistan who are already facing record price-hike in commodities and increase in utility bills. The PDM will liberate the people of Pakistan from the tyranny of the PTI.
